Conference Call Heard 'Round the World

If you can't physically make it to Northern California for the below mentioned presentation... a limited number of participants can access the presentation by conference call.  Even if you are a person who stutters who is somewhat phone-shy, this call will be well worth it.  There will be phone lines available for up to 20 participants. The number is toll free from within the US. To reserve your space on the conference line contact Nina Ghiselli at Nghiselli@alliant.edu.

 Join the ISAD Online Conference

The 12th annual ISAD online conference will open on Thursday, October 1st, and will run through October 22nd which is International Stuttering Awareness Day.

DO NOT MISS THIS ONLINE CONFERENCE!

If you've never "attended" one of these conferences before, you're in for a real treat. The official write-up for this conference states:

Stuttering: More Than a Tangled Tongue is the theme of the twelfth annual International Stuttering Awareness Day online conference, hosted by Judith Kuster, Minnesota State University, Mankato, will open October 1. It can be found by going to The Stuttering Home Page. The online conference features several papers written by well-known professionals and consumers (people who stutter/clutter) from around the world. Participants can read papers and interact with the presenters on easy-to-use threaded discussions attached to each paper, during the three weeks the conference is "live" -- from October 1-22. The ISAD online conference is freely available or can be taken for Continuing Education (1.5/15 hours) or one university credit (either graduate or undergraduate). Instructions and requirements for CEU or credit are online at here.

Papers remain available online after the conference has ended and all past conferences are archived and available here.

............

But that really doesn't tell the whole story. There are over 50 papers on every subject imaginable related to stuttering. Overt, covert, therapy, research, support groups, attitudes, struggles, successes, theories, opinions, ask-the-experts, real life experiences ... you name it, it's there. If you ever wanted to know anything about stuttering, this is the place to go.

The conference is INTERACTIVE too! You can read papers, then ask questions or give comments to the authors. And of course they will answer you. It's not chat, nor is it email or a listserv or Facebook or Twitter. It's a entirely different technique called a "threaded discussion" which is unlike anything you've ever experienced before if this is your first online conference. Simply go to ... The Stuttering Homepage... and click on the conference logo.

You'll find articles written by a BUNCH of NSA people such as Michael Sugarman, Sarah (Dowgiallo) D'Agostino, Maria Garza-Witte, Judy Kuster, Jim McClure, Marty Jezer (amazingly enough!), Ellen Bennett Lanouette, Peter Reitzes, Reuben Schuff, Steven Kaufman, Russ Hicks, Bobby Childers, Pam Mertz, Cathy Olish, Chris Roach, Joshua Schmid, Judy Butler, Kristin Chmela, Bob Quesal, Nan Ratner, and Tim Mackesey. There's also a feature called "The Professor Is In" featuring Scott Yaruss, John Tetnowski, Vivian Sisskin, Judy Kuster, Walt Manning, Dennis Drayna, and Joe Donaher. If you attended the Scottsdale conference last summer, many of those people were on the highly acclaimed research symposium.

And all this is FREE! And even better than that, you can attend the conference in your pajamas without ever leaving your home. All you need is a computer.  Furthermore it's open 24 hours a day. There's no other experience in the stuttering community quite like it.

DO NOT MISS THIS CONFERENCE!

 Wear Sea Green!

What color do we use for stuttering awareness?

-Michael Sugarman from ISA has announced the debut of the stuttering awareness ribbon. The color is sea green. The color ‘blue’ has traditionally been associated with calm while ‘green’ represents liberty, freedom and justice. The combination of these colors for People who Stutter shows the bond between ‘peace’ and ‘liberation’ when finding support and community with other people who understand and share their experiences. These are reflected in the ‘Bill of Rights and Responsibilities of People who Stutter’ by the International Stuttering Association.

Remember to wear Sea Green clothes or a ribbon on October 22nd to raise awareness about stuttering and the issues people who stutter face everyday.  When someone says, "What is the sea green ribbon about?"  or they say, "Hey, nice sea green belt and shoes!" you can seize the opportunity to educate them.
