Your Spare Change can Change Things for the Better

Life can be difficult for anyone affected by stuttering. The NSA makes it easier. We're devoted to doing all we can to help those who stutter through our many workshops, special activities, research, local newsletters, hot lines and local chapters. But all this takes money.

So we're appealing to you to contribute monthly to our "Change for the Better" program. Just save up your pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. You'll barely miss the change you set aside, but it will make a very much appreciated "change" for people struggling with stuttering.

Since we began our monthly pledge program, now called “Change For The Better,” there has been a little confusion over what makes a person a paid member of the NSA.

For many years, we asked members to pay a nominal annual fee to sustain their membership.  Of course many of our members made additional contributions above that minimum level.

Now you can become a contributing member of the NSA, or renew your membership, in two ways: with an annual minimum contribution of $40, or with a monthly pledge of $15 or more through the “Change For The Better” program.

The “Change For The Better” program is simple.  Just select a monthly contribution of $15 or more using your credit card. This covers the cost of your membership and keeps you enrolled as a contributing NSA member. Monthly pledges also give the NSA steady income, so we don’t have to rely on one-time contributions and grants to cover the monthly expenses of keeping the organization alive.

Although the NSA is the world’s largest support organization for people who stutter, we’re operating on a shoestring budget even by nonprofit standards. Operations costs include phone bill, web site hosting, printing and postage, and the salaries of a full-time director and part-time assistant. Many of our members volunteer their time to run workshops, organize the annual conference, and provide accounting, legal and other professional services. We get occasional grants from foundations and companies, but our primary support comes from our members. “Change For The Better” makes it easier than ever to help the NSA thrive and grow. We call it “change” because you can support the NSA by saving your pocket change:

• Save 50 cents a day and in one month you'll have enough to donate $15.00! (Bronze level)
   
• Save 75 cents a day and in one month you'll have enough to donate $22.50! (Silver level)
   
• Save 99 cents a day and in one month you'll have enough to donate $29.75! (Gold level)
