Meet Tatum Machnica, a valued member of the National Stuttering Association team. Learn more about their role and contributions. Tatum Machnica Young Adults Committee Tatum was born, raised, and currently resides in Huntsville, AL. She received her Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and her Masters degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) She currently works for a government contracting company, providing Systems Engineering support to the Army. Tatum’s passion is supporting the warfighter and she enjoys the hands on approach that engineering provides. When she’s not working or hanging out with friends you can find her teaching Pure Barre, attending HIIT classes, cycling, running, reading, or traveling with her husband. Tatum’s first NSA conference was in 2018, where the NSA community quickly became family. She is so grateful and excited to serve on the NSA Young Adults Committee.

THE KRISHNAN AND YEGNESWARAN FAMILY College Scholarship Financial support for college students who stutter Apply for the Scholarship Check Eligibility About the Scholarship The Krishnan and Yegneswaran Family College Scholarship provides financial assistance to college students who stutter, supporting their educational goals while advancing the mission of the National Stuttering Association. This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate academic commitment, leadership potential, and a connection to the stuttering community. Who Is Eligible You may apply if you: Are a person who stutters Are pursuing higher education (college, university, or vocational school) Are enrolled or planning to enroll for the upcoming academic year Demonstrate financial need Show interest in advocacy, leadership, or community engagement Additional considerations Applicants from all fields of study are welcome Preference may be given to applicants engaged in stuttering-related advocacy or community involvement Minimum GPA requirement: 3.0 or higher The scholarship committee reserves the right to adjust eligibility criteria as necessary, and all decisions made by the committee are final. < Back Heather Barboza Speaker Heather Barboza is the mother of Julian (Juju) Barboza, who has stuttered since he first learned to speak. She also has a daughter, Liani. They live in Mount Pleasant, TX, which is known as the trailer and chicken factory capital of the world. This will be her son’s first time attending an NSA conference. Ever since he discovered that these events exist, he’s been incredibly interested. Their town is small, and resources are very limited. Fortunately, Heather has connected with several people in the stuttering community who have been incredibly supportive. Being able to attend this conference and be part of it will be such a blessing and a valuable experience for us. Previous Next

< Back DaVon Camp Speaker DaVon B. Camp was born and raised in Washington, DC, and currently serves in a senior-level director role in his profession. In addition to being a mentor and stuttering advocate, he’s a husband and father of four children. DaVon was diagnosed as a person who stutters at the age of seven and spent much of his life feeling alone and ashamed of his stuttering. It wasn’t until DaVon found the National Stuttering Association at age thirty-five, that he finally accepted his stuttering, turned it into his biggest strength, and no longer considered his stuttering a weakness. DaVon’s purpose in life is to show his son, who also stutters - and all people who stutter - that confidence and stuttering, two words that are never mentioned together, can co-exist. Previous Next

The NSA Young Adults program offers support, resources, and connection for people who stutter ages 18–30. Find community and encouragement here. You’ve graduated high school…now what?
