About the event

Raising a child who stutters is often a diverse experience full of joys, challenges, and questions—especially when navigating relationships with extended family who may not fully understand stuttering. In this NSA Connects session hosted by our DEI Committee, we’ll reflect on the complexities of identity and family dynamics while connecting with other parents on similar journeys.

Participants will hear personal experiences and strategies for supporting children while honoring family relationships, even when relatives offer well-meaning advice but have outdated beliefs about speech. We’ll also explore how representation shapes each child’s experience: family, culture, language, and community all influence how stuttering is experienced, and no two families’ journeys are the same.

The NSA DEI Committee is committed to creating an inclusive, equitable space for all people who stutter.
