About the event

Students who stutter may encounter certain challenges at school, from reading aloud and answering questions to responding to teasing or bullying from classmates.

Join Travis Althouse, a speech-language pathologist, person who stutters, children’s book author, and content creator at @‌travis.stuttering, for a conversation about creating more supportive and inclusive spaces for students who stutter.

Travis will share practical strategies to help educators better understand stuttering, reduce unnecessary speaking pressure, and respond supportively to students’ individual communication needs. He will also discuss ways to educate classmates about stuttering and encourage active listening so every student feels comfortable participating and sharing their voice. The session will highlight resources that promote stuttering acceptance, including Travis’s children’s book, Finn Finds His Voice, which presents a unique perspective on the experience of stuttering.

Parents, siblings, educators, school counselors, teens, adults who stutter, and anyone interested in supporting young people who stutter are welcome to attend…
