About the event
With the holidays coming up, that can mean lots of travel. And travel often means busy airports, TSA checkpoints, and conversations with people who may not understand or have encountered stuttering before. For people who stutter, concerns about being misunderstood or treated unfairly can make these interactions more stressful.
Join the NSA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee members Ashleigh Givens, Gabby Perez, and Julie Marshall for a conversation about interacting with authority figures. We’ll talk about experiences with TSA agents, customs officers, police officers, bartenders, bouncers, and teachers, including situations where misconceptions about stuttering can lead to misunderstandings or exclusion.
This educational, conversational session will also explore how intersecting identities can influence these encounters and offer practical strategies for self-advocacy.
