    Meet Maya Singal, a valued member of the National Stuttering Association team. Learn more about their role and contributions. Maya Singal Co-Chair of Sisters Who Stutter Maya Singal is the Co-Chair of Sisters Who Stutter (SWS) and a senior in high school from Chicago, Illinois. In her leadership role, Maya helps guide the direction of the organization while supporting a welcoming, empowering space for girls who stutter to connect, grow, and support one another. Maya is actively involved in the National Stuttering Association (NSA) through the Teen Advisory Council and is passionate about giving back to the stuttering community. She attends Camp Shout Out annually and values the sense of belonging and confidence the community has provided. Outside of her advocacy work, Maya is a member of her school’s golf team and has served as Club Liaison for Aspiring Medical Professionals for the past two years. She is also involved in Best Buddies and volunteers in the pathology lab at her local hospital, reflecting her strong interest in healthcare and service. Maya is excited about the future of Sisters Who Stutter and looks forward to continuing to build meaningful connections with fellow girls who stutter. She is especially eager to attend the upcoming NSA Conference in Charlotte and deepen her involvement in the broader NSA community.

Dr. Megan Young Professional Relations Committee Dr. Megan Young is a dedicated and accomplished speech-language pathologist and Assistant Professor at New Mexico State University. With a deep commitment to advancing understanding and support for people who stutter, Megan has been an active member of the National Stuttering Association (NSA) since 2019. Her passion for making a meaningful impact in the stuttering community is reflected in her research, which delves into the psychosocial aspects of stuttering, the lived experiences of individuals who stutter, and the pursuit of employment equity for adults who stutter. Through her work, Megan strives to break down barriers and foster greater inclusion and understanding in workplaces and society as a whole. Megan’s academic and clinical expertise is complemented by her dedication to mentorship and advocacy. She is known for creating a supportive environment for her students and actively engaging in initiatives that amplify the voices of those who stutter. Her research has contributed valuable insights to the field, helping to bridge the gap between clinical practice and the real-world challenges faced by people who stutter. Megan resides in Las Cruces, NM, where she enjoys a fulfilling personal life with her husband and two cats. Outside of her professional endeavors, she finds joy in music, experimenting in the kitchen, exploring new destinations, and embracing the beauty of the outdoors. Whether hiking through the scenic landscapes of New Mexico or engaging in creative pursuits, Megan’s well-rounded interests enrich her perspective and fuel her dedication to her work. Her passion for creating positive change makes her a valued member of the NSA and the broader speech-language pathology community.

Ariel’s stuttering journey has taken her from an angsty, incredulous kid to an outspoken and fierce advocate for the stuttering community. She is particularly passionate about helping people who stutter find and build confidence in the workplace. Ariel is the author of a stuttering and lifestyle blog and a member of the WeStutter@Work committee.     Meet Chris Monello, a valued member of the National Stuttering Association team. Learn more about their role and contributions. Chris Monello WS@W Committee Chris Monello lives in Tinton Falls, New Jersey and is a person who stutters. He started attending NSA local chapter meetings in 2014 and was quickly comforted by the stuttering community and inspired to help others who stutter. In 2021, he joined the We Stutter at Work Board to help advocate for people who stutter in the workplace. He’s passionate about his career as the Head of Marketing at Scientific American Magazine. When he isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with loved ones, traveling and yoga.

Blank Center for Stuttering Education and Research at The University of Texas at Austin, where she completed her training under the mentorship of Dr. Courtney Byrd. Her program of research explores the intersections of Race, Gender, and Disability within the stuttering experience by engaging in critical theories and storytelling methodologies that center Disability Justice.     < Back Previous Elizabeth Minton Presenter Elizabeth Minton’s story is a bit different than many of ours. She began stuttering in 2020 after a reaction to medication. She earned her first degree in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Public Relations, after which she worked in the mortgage industry. Elizabeth recently completed her Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Outside of that, she enjoys playing video games, tabletop games, and petting anything fluffy. Next

    Meet Arianna Gilliam, a valued member of the National Stuttering Association team. Learn more about their role and contributions. Arianna Gilliam Regional Chapter Coordinator (RCC) Central South Region Arianna Gilliam is from Houston, Texas, and serves as the National Stuttering Association’s Regional Chapter Coordinator (RCC) for the Central South Region. The NSA has had a profound impact on her life, and she is passionate about supporting chapter leaders, connecting members across the region, and helping create spaces where people who stutter feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to be themselves. Arianna also serves as Co-Leader of the Houston, TX NSA Chapter, where she enjoys building community and helping others find the same sense of belonging that the NSA has given her. Outside of the NSA, she is an entrepreneur with a passion for creativity. She owns a photography business and hosts the podcast Sista With A Stutter, where she shares conversations that amplify the voices and experiences of Black men and women who stutter. As RCC, Arianna is passionate about supporting chapter leaders, fostering meaningful connections, and helping the Central South Region continue to flourish.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and her Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the University of Alabama. She now provides systems engineering support to the Army as a government contractor. Outside of work, she teaches Pure Barre and stays active. Since attending her first Annual Conference in 2018, she’s been grateful to serve on the National Stuttering Association’s Young Adults Committee. Next

    < Back Teen Advisory Council Spotlight: Rowan Ashby – Confidence, Connection, and Community The NSA’s Teen Advisory Council (TAC) comprises passionate and motivated young leaders who serve as mentors and role models for their peers—and Rowan Ashby is a shining example of that spirit. Rowan joined the NSA two years ago, looking for a place to feel understood and supported. What they found was not only a welcoming community but also the confidence to lead, inspire, and dream big. “The NSA has given me newfound confidence,” Rowan shares. “I joined to find a community of people who understood and supported me.” Now an active member of TAC, Rowan works year-round to support fellow teens and create safe, empowering spaces—especially at the Annual Conference, where TAC members help kids and teens connect and grow. Looking ahead, Rowan hopes to start a support group for people who stutter on Long Island, expanding the NSA's reach and building community where it's needed most. Their advice to new members? “There are people who understand you and will accept you as you are.” And when Rowan’s not mentoring others or speaking up for change, they’re diving into some pretty amazing passions: Favorite ice cream: Cookies and cream Pets: One cat and one dog Musical talent: Has played the cello for over 10 years Achievement: Two-time New York State Champion in swimming Rowan’s courage, dedication, and leadership are helping shape a stronger, more inclusive NSA for teens everywhere.
